Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
when I breathe through my nose it feels like the passage is being pinched together. It feels like it is constantly blocked. When i pull the skin on my cheeks next to my nose under my eyes outwards it opens up the passage and i gain 100%. Is there a surgical procedure that can rectify this as I know that it is affecting my sleep and day to day life majorly .
i totally understand your concerns about your breathing problem.
Your case is due to nasal obstruction. the following reasons and treatment must be taken into consideration:
1- The fact that you mention that you feel relieved by pulling your cheek is a hint that you might have hypertrophied nasal concha (turbinate), that can be easily diagnosed by physical exam. An assessment of a possible nasal septal deviation that might exacerbate your obstruction is also important. the treatment of these 2 cases is surgical : turbinectomy (removing part of the lower concha) and septoplasty (correcting the septal deviation).
2- Allergy, cold, sinusitis and many other etiologies also might lead to nasal obstruction, the medical treatment in such cases consist of topical corticosteroid use by nasal spray, oral antihistamine, physiologic saline spray in the each nostril. These medications help a lot to control your symptoms.
Best Regards
